Herod’s Temple

Herod’s Temple

‎The inner courts of Herod’s Temple were accessible by 10 gates, through which only Jews could enter. Inside there were several chambers and a courtyard where sacrifices were made. At one end was the holy place—a two-room sanctuary used by Jewish priests. The expansive building project of Herod’s Second Temple and Temple Mount was completed in approximately AD 62–64, only to be destroyed by the Romans in AD 70.

The holy of holies

the holy of holies

‎The holy of holies

The holy of holies was the innermost chamber of Solomon’s temple; it contained only two gold-inlaid cherubim and the ark of the covenant (1 Kgs 8:6). The high priest was permitted to enter the holy of holies only once a year to bring an offering of blood. This was the Day of Atonement, now known as Yom Kippur.

Jerusalem

Jerusalem

The City of Jerusalem, 34, BC

‎By 34 BC, under King Herod’s rule, ancient Jerusalem went through major redevelopment, crowned with the rebuilding of the Second Temple and a bigger Temple Mount. In AD 66, the Great Jewish Revolt challenged Roman rule over Jerusalem, resulting in the destruction of the temple and the fall of Jerusalem by AD 70.

A chronology of Jesus aims to establish a timeline for the events of the life of Jesus. Scholars ….. John 2:13 says that Jesus went to the Temple in Jerusalem around the start of his ministry and in John 2:20 Jesus is …. Colin Humphreys calculates but rejects these AD 27 and AD 34 dates on the basis that the former is much too.

Hoping to cut off the snake’s head, they begin to persecute the Church. Apostles are priority targets, but even regular members of “the Way” find it difficult to avoid imprisonment. Stephen’s death proves to be a turning point.  This event ignites a firestorm of persecution. You are the Apostles. Pray, share, and use your growing faith to guide the Church on your mission to spread the good news. You have been.

Israelite Encampment

Israelite Encampment

The ‎Israelite Encampment

The Book of Numbers describes the layout of the encampment during Israel’s 40 years of wilderness wanderings (2:1–34). The tribes encamped around the tabernacle, both in order to stay close to the tent of meeting and to defend it during attack. The four sides were surrounded by four groups, led by Judah, Reuben, Ephraim, and Dan. The Levites—specially chosen to be close to God—camped around all sides of the tabernacle.

The tribe of Levi was chosen by God to serve as priests and they were placed together around the Tabernacle, with the clan of Gershon on the West behind the tent of meeting, the clan of Merari in the North, the clan of Kohath in the South and with Moses, Aaron and his two living sons in the East in front of the tent of meeting.

Ancient Jericho

‎archaeological excavations reveal that Jericho

Ancient Jericho

‎‎Archaeological excavations reveal that Jericho was violently destroyed sometime toward the end of the Bronze Age. The walls seem to have been thrown down by sudden force, as if by an earthquake. Charred wood shows that what was left of the city was burned. Excavators have also found food supplies buried in the destroyed city, which shows it was not captured by siege.

Bible Galilean Fishing Boat

‎This type of small sailboat was very common in first century Galilee; it was likely the same kind that Jesus’ first disciples used. According to the Gospels, Jesus‘ earthly ministry centered around the Sea.

This is apparent from the level of the harbors that have survived from the first century, but three types seem to be most common in the New Testament record. … probably the “two small fish” which Jesus used to feed the multitude.

Egyptian Chariots

Two types of chariots
Two types of chariots

Two types of chariots

‎Two types of chariots used by ancient Egyptians were war and royal chariots. Made mostly of wood and rawhide, these light, horse-drawn chariots could carry two or three people at a time. The Egyptians knew two types of chariots, the war-chariot which had six-spoked wheels while the carriage chariots had only four spokes. The six spoked wheels could be made lighter and were better supported than the heavier four spoked wheels, making the whole chariot more reliable.

Babylonian Chronicles

‎The Babylonian Chronicles are a series of clay tablets

‎Many series of tablets recording major events

They narrate events beginning in the eighth century BC and cover nearly 500 years of history.

The Babylonian Chronicles are many series of tablets recording major events in Babylonian history. They are thus one of the first steps in the development of ancient historiography. The Babylonian Chronicles were written from the reign of Nabonassar up to the Parthian Period, by Babylonian astronomers (“Chaldaeans”), who probably used the Astronomical Diaries as their source.

Almost all of the tablets were identified as chronicles once in the collection of the British Museum, having been acquired via antiquities dealers from unknown excavations in the 19th century. All but three of the chronicles are unprovenanced.

The Chronicles provide the “master narrative” for large tracts of current Babylonian history.
